It will be a blend of art, history, art history, and living history. Visitors to the event will start with formal talks at the Cavalry Barracks Mess Hall which will provide and introduction to Miller’s story, his art and the challenges he faced trying to portray the early Rocky Mountain West for audiences back east and in Europe.
Visitors will then be able to walk to the living history camp to see scenes that Miller himself would have seen 175 years ago. In the camp they will be able to talk with living history interpreters about the camp life and material culture of the fur trade, and how Miller’s artwork is an important primary source for understanding life in the Rocky Mountains. Visitors will be encouraged to photograph, sketch or paint the camp scenes just as Miller did. An artist and a photographer will be in the camp to talk to visitors about how they might capture the historic scenes.

http://www.nps.gov/fola/planyourvisit/events.htmMerylenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6964675941678680587.post-29273413622262817132012-06-11T13:39:06.258-07:002012-06-11T13:39:06.258-07:00I never grow tired of looking at his art. I think ...I never grow tired of looking at his art. I think he did an amazing job of capturing the times he lived in, even if he did only go there once. In fact, that could be why his art is so special, because that one visit to the West was so special to him. It was his "dream come true."Darla Sue Dollmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15295727215740074345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6964675941678680587.post-34385229144353938382012-06-11T12:40:02.699-07:002012-06-11T12:40:02.699-07:00Thanks for sharing this information and art with m...Thanks for sharing this information and art with me.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13047204365336395907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6964675941678680587.post-22634789019926804452012-06-08T10:32:17.845-07:002012-06-08T10:32:17.845-07:00Wow, this guy looks really cool, thanks for sharin...Wow, this guy looks really cool, thanks for sharing about him!Graceyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00106325966254556323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6964675941678680587.post-56095787774332661912012-06-05T22:45:56.944-07:002012-06-05T22:45:56.944-07:00I first saw his work in Houston when his work was ...I first saw his work in Houston when his work was on tour with the Bank of America Collection. I did a quick Google search and I see many past shows, but nothing recent. I can't imagine it will be too much longer before his work is on display again, particularly in Western museums. Though his name is not as well known as some, he is a very important artist to the history of the American West.Darla Sue Dollmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15295727215740074345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6964675941678680587.post-62519613295462713742012-06-05T18:25:19.676-07:002012-06-05T18:25:19.676-07:00Are there any museums with his work on display? Are there any museums with his work on display?B.
