Unfortunately, I don't think Kit Carson realized when he was assigned to "burn out" the Navajo that his government would not have alternative food and water supplies for the people on the march to the reservation. I don't think any of the men realized how completely unprepared they would be for the assignment they were given. Perhaps I'm just hoping that was the situation, but the impression I have from studying this historic event is that they expected to at least find food waiting for them at Fort Sumner, but the expectation of the government was that the Navajo and Apache would/should learn to become farmers and take care of themselves--without seeds, tools, water, etc. Darla Sue Dollmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15295727215740074345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6964675941678680587.post-83635440118804238242012-10-27T12:44:00.619-07:002012-10-27T12:44:00.619-07:00A rich and tragic story, well told.A rich and tragic story, well told.Rob Lopezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11243259935247675354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6964675941678680587.post-6111478842895962062012-10-23T07:23:26.885-07:002012-10-23T07:23:26.885-07:00Really interesting stuff. thanks for all wonderful...Really interesting stuff. thanks for all wonderful posts i read. War is one thing, but treating the aged, the children, and women with families in such a matter, is a painful and sad part of our U.S. history.<br /> May this serve as a heart rendering reminder...we must never allow ourselves to act like this again.
