It was also the same year that my grandfather, Jay C. Simpson, was born in Sidney Center, N.Y. Nine years later (1878) he waved goodbye to his aunt Mary Jane Simpson as she and her family headed west by train to start a new life in Oregon. But at Kelton, Utah (now a ghost town near Promontory Point), they were forced to continue their journey north via the Wells Fargo stage line, as the railroad at the time only went west to Sacramento, California. That stage line, running between Kelton and several gold mines in Idaho and Montana was robbed more often than any other stage line in the Old West.Pimeriahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02869487450011000281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6964675941678680587.post-22020261794040698612013-07-02T02:37:02.511-07:002013-07-02T02:37:02.511-07:00Better than walking.Better than walking.HansMueller09223https://www.blogger.com/profile/02489886044820199820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6964675941678680587.post-92056883684420898442013-06-24T07:28:43.282-07:002013-06-24T07:28:43.282-07:00Yes, but it was the best they had at the time! I can't imagine how awful it would be driving on those dirt roads--bumpy, rough, dirt and dust flying in the windows. Ugh. Still, I'd love to take a ride in one, just to try it out!Darla Sue Dollmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15295727215740074345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6964675941678680587.post-23190210155354237662013-06-24T07:26:20.002-07:002013-06-24T07:26:20.002-07:00Are you referring to her portrayal of Calamity Jan...Are you referring to her portrayal of Calamity Jane? I've read stories of people becoming so sick and disoriented from the dust and heat that they simply wandered off when the stagecoach stopped and disappeared.
